When established on September 1, 1911, Umpqua River Range Lights consisted of a fixed white post-lantern light displayed at a height of 20 feet above the water from a white cross arm attached to a white post on the sand shelf at the southern side of the entrance to the river as the front light and a fixed white post-lantern light exhibited 60 feet above the water from a white cross arm attached to a tree located about 200 yards from the front light.

Post-lantern lights were also established on September 1, 1911 on Umpqua River: Ballast Point Light, North Side Channel Light, and West Side Channel Light.
