From the National Archives site: "Caption: Choctaw Point Light Station, Alabama. To Commissioner of Lighthouses: Old Lighthouse - Choctaw Point, Alabama. 1. Inclosed herewith is a page from "Ballou's Pictorial Drawing-Room Companion" relative to the lighthouse which existed at ChoctawPoint, Mobile, Alabama. It will be noted that no date is printed on the inclosure. Captain Eaton, who sent me the page from the magazine, states, in reply to a letter, that the magazine was issued about October 10, 1857. A photostat of the page has been retained for the files of this office. From: E.S. Lanphier, Superintendent of Lighthouses."
