Catharine Hobday was an assistant lighthouse keeper at the lighthouse erected on Seahorse Key near Cedar Keys in 1854. She served from 1872-1879 and was the only female to hold this position at the lighthouse and did so until her death. Catharine and the original keeper William Wilson are buried not far from the lighthouse itself. Her son Andrew D. Hobday served as head keeper from 1871-1890.
