Pioneer Resident of Los Angeles, California. George D. W. Robinson came to Southern California in the Fall of 1849, in the same company with John G. Nichols, the third mayor of Los Angeles, and Judge Benjamin I. Hayes, the first district court judge in Los Angeles. In 1851, Robinson served as the first jailer and deputy sheriff of Los Angeles County. He later operated a restaurant and boarding house in San Quentin, and served as the warden of San Quentin State Prison. He was also the lighthouse keeper at Point Bonita, before returning to Southern California. He was a saloon keeper in San Diego during the 1880s, and he spent his later years back in Los Angeles. Husband of Jane (Sutch) Robinson from England, they married in Iowa in February of 1849, just months before coming to California. Father of six children.
