Wife of Keeper Henry Stanley.

Mrs. Frank Bernhart passed away last Friday morning at 1:30 o'clock having suffered a stroke of paralysis ten days previous after an illness of several months duration. The left side of the body was affected by the palsy and even her vocal organs were stricken. The end had been expected momentarily for days.

The funeral was held Monday morning at 9 o'clock from St. Joseph's Catholic church. Rev. Broens celebrated requim high Mass and the members of the Christian Mothers confraternity, of which the deceased was a member, attended the services in the body. A large cortege of relatives and friends followed the remains to St. Joseph's cemetery, where interment was made.

The deceased was born in Heidenberg, Germany on November 23, 1837 and at the time of her death, was but a few days of her 78th birthday.
Her maiden name was Katherine Hesh and she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Hesh.
When a young girl, her mother died and shortly afterward, her father came to the United States. He established a home in New York City and then sent for his children, six in number, and they joined him there. Katherine then was eight years of age.

Nine years later, she was married to Edward Stanley in New York. They lived in Milwaukee several years before coming here and in 1868, they came to Door county.
Mr. Stanley became light-keeper at Eagle Bluff and remained there until the early eighties when he was transferred to Sherwood Point light at Idlewild. Captain Stanley died in 1895 and shortly afterward, his widow moved to this city.
Without children of her own, she had been living with a niece, now Mrs. William Cochems, her only living immediate relative, besides her husband, living in this part of the country.

In 1901, she married Frank Bernhart in this city and they have resided here since. Mr. Bernhart is at present ill and has not been in good health for several months.

Mrs. Bernhart is survived by her husband, one brother George Hesh of Brooklyn N.Y.; two sisters: Mary and Emma of New Jersey; three stepsons and three stepdaughters: Conservation Warden William Bernhart of this city; Peter Bernhart of Wausau; Julius Bernahrt of Thompson, Michigan; Mrs. J.P. Kules of Wausau; Mrs. Joseph Bie of Marshfield and Mrs. Fred Hanson of this city.

Among those from outside in attendance at the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. J.P. Kules, Peter Bernhart of Wausau, Mrs. Joseph Bie of Marshfield, Sam Perry, Miss Elizabeth Perry, Miss Elvira Bernhart, Mrs. William Fagg of Forestville, Mrs. M. Reinhart, Sr of Algoma and Mrs. Clayton Graef of Palmyra.
