Clarence J. Anderson

Clarence J. Anderson, 63, Washington Island, died Thursday afternoon at Door County Memorial Hospital in Sturgeon Bay following a brief illness.

Born at Sister Bay, Wis., Sept. 17, 1895, he served in World War I and then joined the U.S. Coast Guard. Later he served with the U.S. Lighthouse Service for 19 years before retiring in 1945.

He was a member of the Last Man’s Club of Co. C in Sheboygan, and was also a member of the Washington Island Lutheran Church, the Washington Island Fire Department, Sportsmen’s Club and American Legion.

Survivors are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Thomas Jessen of Washington Island; two grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Arthur Lesperance of Two Rivers; a brother, William, of Sheboygan, and his stepmother, Mrs. Ida Anderson of Sheboygan.

Masonic rites will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Casperson Funeral Home at Sister Bay and then the body will be taken to Washington Island to lie in state at the Trinity Lutheran Church from 2 p.m. Sunday until the services at 2 p.m. Monday. The Rev. Myron Haleen will officiate and military rites will be held at the grave in Washington Island Cemetery.
