Caption for photo from the National Archives site: "South Island Light Station, South Carolina. Keepers Dwelling, rear view, camera station 50 ft. South. Cost: $5269.77. Data: Dwelling heated by open fireplaces. Water supply cistern under dwelling. Lighted by oil lamps. Tile drains to cess pool. 4 rooms 1st floor, detached kitchen, one attic room. Completed 1910. Description: Foundation-Brick piers on concrete footings. Superstructure-Wood frame-sheathed with novelty siding. Ceiling inside-asbestos shingle roof."
