The American Lighthouse Foundation (ALF) nonprofit organization, founded in 1994. ALF and its six chapters have stewardship for thirteen lighthouses and have invested over $3.25 million dollars in lighthouse restoration.

This material is primarily research Candace Clifford collected at the National Archives for her books and various clients.  Many thanks to the clients who are donating their research to the Society for use in the Catalog. This includes:

Kraig Anderson has compiled a list of over 30,000 personnel connected with the U.S. Lighthouse Service. Besides the locations where these people served, this collection also includes photographs, newspaper articles, and documents related to their service.

Primary depository for lighthouse records in the U.S.

This includes documents produced by the National Maritime Heritage Program, National Historic Landmark Program, National Register of Historic Places, or various National Parks.

These items come from the archives of the U.S. Lighthouse Society.

The U.S. Coast Guard Historian's Office, located in Washington, D.C., has collections relating to the history of the U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Lighthouse Service, U.S. Revenue Cutter Service, and U.S. Life-Saving Service. See www.history.uscg.mil for more information. Items include photos, newspaper articles, and in some cases, correspondence. The majority of items are in the public domain and are unrestricted.
