Son of Keeper Edward Durgan and Keeper Estelle A. Durgan.
According to a letter in his father's personnel folder, Clarence lost a leg as the result of a bicycle accident in Port Townsend when he was a boy. It is not clear if the leg was lost at the time of the accident or if further injuries in the lighthouse service contributed to its loss.
