Comments

Scott was made an additional second keeper at Cape Hinchinbrook in 1916 so he could take his accumulated leave. He returned to the station in 1917. William J. Morgan served for a year while Scott was away.

Mr. Scott, Assistant Keeper of Mary Island Light Station, left the station at 10 a.m. December 30, 1920, with two young men who had been visiting the station. He was reported to the Superintendent as missing about 2 p.m. on January 1, 1921, and the tender Fern immediately proceeded to Mary Island and commenced search. Other search parties also proceeded to the island. The body of Mr. Scott was found by the Fern search party about 11 a.m. January 3, 1921, he evidently having died from exposure. There is no evidence as to the exact date of Mr. Scott's death, but the surrounding circumstances indicate that it occurred some time on January 1, 1921.
