Harry Portman, aged 39 years, a native of Biloxi and resident of Round Island, off Mobile, for the past five years, where he has been in the employ of the government as keeper of the light at the island, died in the Marine hospital in Mobile last evening at 8:15 o'clock. Mr. Portman left Biloxi ten years ago to take a position with at the Sand Island light, at which place he served for five years, going from that island to Round Island, where he had been up until the time he was taken ill. Mr. Portman was one of the best men in the light service of the government. He was reared in this city at the home of Mrs. George Ohr and had a large number of friends in Biloxi and other coast cities. Deceased is survived by a wife, who was Miss Annie Waters, of Horn Island, and two children. The remains were brought to this city this afternoon from Mobile, arriving on the 4 o'clock train. They have been placed in the Ohr home on Delaunay street, from which residence the funeral will be held tomorrow, with interment in the Biloxi cemetery.
