Comments:

 

  • 1888 - First tower constructed, lantern had flat glass windows and a masonry parapet wall below lantern windows. Access to exterior of lantern via a ladder from the ground.

  • 1912 - Lantern windows changed to curved glass, door added to brick parapet wall, new

    rotating lens, brackets under lantern deck & weight tube.

  • 1912 - Lens changed from fixed white to a rotating lens with a group flash characteristic

    of two white flashes every 5 seconds.

  • 1933 – New taller cast concrete tower.

  • 1933 –  Roof and windows of lantern transferred from old tower to new tower, new cast

    iron parapet wall constructed for new tower.

  • Grab rail added to roofline.

  • 1964 - Lantern removed from tower to accommodate the new DCB-36 aero beacon.

  • Gone now for 50 years and presumed destroyed.....

  • 1985? - A lantern is found in U.S. Navy warehouse in Astoria OR

  • Placed on display.

  • Today - has been on display at Columbia River Maritime Museum unidentified for 30?

    Years.
