Tower was built in 1881 and originally stood in Ipswich, Massachusetts. After the original (1828) Edgartown Lighthouse was badly damaged in a 1938 hurricane, it was demolished and the cast-iron tower was moved from Ipswich to Edgartown. (www.newenglandlighthouses.net)
