Comments:
  • Original lighthouse was octagonal, 30' tall, with 8 lamps with parabolic reflectors
  • The first Keeper, Jonathan Finch, sold lobsters, clams and liquor to supplement his income at the station
  • 1847- Contractor Marcus Bassett completes second lighthouse after years of complaints about ineffectiveness of the original lighthouse
  • The new lighthouse and dwelling were connected by a covered walkway
  • New lighthouse had 12 lamps with parabolic reflectors
  • 1855 - a 5th order Fresnel lens is installed
  • 1860 - fog bell added to the station
  • Jan 1, 1877 the lighthouse is discontinued for Southwest Ledge
