Comments:

Herrick Cove Light is one of three lighthouses built on Lake Sunapee in the 1890s in an effort to improve the safety of steamboat travel. The builders were the Woodsum Brothers, who ran the steamships that traversed the lake in its heyday as a resort. The lighthouse is owned by the State of New Hampshire's Marine Patrol Bureau and is maintained by the Lake Sunapee Protection Association. Herrick Cove Lighthouse was refurbished in 1965 and more repairs were done in 1983 after some damage by ice. In October 2003 the lighthouse was lifted by helicopter off its base for another thorough renovation. The crib base was overhauled and the outer wooden panels of the lighthouse were replaced with maintenance-free panels. The tower's appearance remained the same.
