The rear range tower was moved to Edgartown (Martha's Vineyard), Massachusetts, in 1939, where it replaced the earlier Edgartown Lighthouse, which had been badly damaged in the hurricane of 1938. (www.newenglandlighthouses.net)
A fire gutted the interior in 1939. It was decided to just tear down the structure rather than rebuild.
