After the loss of the original structure, the USCG had erected a wood tower and placed decommissioned Oakland Harbor Lighthouse's lantern atop. When Mark Abbot, a local, drown in 1965, his parents donated the funds to rebuild the structure in brick. It also serves as a surfing museum.
