Comments:
  • Was the site of the famous 1812 event where the daughters of Keeper Simeon Bates, Rebecca and Abigail tricked the invading British force into thinking the American militia was coming by playing the fife and drum from a concealed location.
  • The lighthouse was made obsolete by Minot's Ledge lighthouse
  • After several wrecks, a pole light was lit in 1900 on the north breakwater
  • In 1991 a years long restoration was completed on the lighthouse. After 131 years of darkness, the lighthouse was relit on July 6, 1991. Unfortunately, it was visible from land only.
  • In 1994, the lighthouse was lit as a private aid to navigation. It was visible for 4 miles over the water, but as of 2025 it is 15 miles.
