Retired for disability on December 31, 1950, after over 32 years of service.
Julian Haywood Austin, 72, died Wednesday, May 20, 1970, in U.S. Public Health Service Hospital, Norfolk, VA after a long illness.
A lifelong resident of Frisco, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Mary Catherine Dobson Austin and a son of John and Mrs. Empie Poyner Austin.
He was retired from the Coast Guard and had been a lighthouse keeper. He was a Coast Guard veteran of World War II. He was a member of Woodmen of the World and Little Grove United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two daughters: Mrs. Thomas R. Meads of Elizabeth City and Mrs. Franklin Wall of Elizabeth City; a son, Julian Haywood Austin, Jr. of Elizabeth City; a sister, Mrs. Earl Willis of Frisco and 10 grandchildren.
A funeral service was held Saturday in Little Grove United Methodist Church. Burial was in Quidley Cemetery, Buxton.
